The
Subic International Raceway (SIR), a 2.9
kilometer circuit with 12 turns, has been the venue for
both local & international races. Located beside the
Subic International Airport, it is 15 minutes away from
Central Business District of Subic Bay Freeport and was
completed in 1994. The new Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway
to be completed in a few months has created some changes
in the SIR. The new expressway ends at what was the raceway’s
parking lot. This has caused the raceway to relocate its
parking and has resulted in some change in the course itself.
One of the next races is the Philippine National Touring
Car Championship Class A & B on August 26,2007and will
be held on the newly modified raceway.
Racers from all over the Philippines and other foreign countries
have competed here. The typical race season consist of Formula
3 race, Motorcycle races, SVI Grand Prix and Philippine
National Touring Car series. The series uses touring cars,
Miata (Mazda) and vintage cars. They usually hold 12 races
in a year. Each race meet lasts for 3 days. Typically the
1st day is a day for practice, 2nd day is for time trial
and the 3rd day is the race proper. A “Run What
You Brung” race is held in April while the Annual
Philippine Motor sports Festival is November. |

Motor sports enthusiasts should bring
their family members who are not into auto racing because
there is a wide variety of activities to do while in Subic.
Those who are interested, in bridging the gap between being
a spectator and participating, will find that the SIR is
the perfect place to start the process. There are two racing
schools that used the raceway as a training center. One
is the Ramirez’ Racing School who uses the individual’s
car. The other is Tuason Racing School who uses purposely-
built cars.
Subic International Raceway is being operated by
Sports Values, Inc. and governed by Automotive Association
of the Philippines (AAP) and Federacion
Internationale de Automotive (FIA). It was organized
by Mr. Pocholo Ramirez with Mr. Mandy Eduque and Mr. Mike
Potenciano. |
